Thanks for providing such a valuable form for information and dialogue. My particular area of academic interest focuses on the diaconate in the Byzantine tradition. If there is anyone who has a similar interest I would be pleased to contact them. I remain in Christ, David Kennedy, Protodeacon (Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Toronto)
I am interested in the site as an aspirant to the diaconate. Information on the preparation for the order, others experiences and the ways a deacon can be of service to the Body of Christ would be most helpful.
i have just started the diaconate program and found your site very helpful thank you and god bless
GREAT SIGHT; VERY GOOD FOR MEN IN FORMATION AND WOULD BE WONDERFUL IF A CHAT ROOM COULD BE ADDED. DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT COMPUTERS, BUT SEE A GREAT POTENTIAL IN THERE USE. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK. DEACON HANK POULIOT, ARCHDIOCESE OF MOBILE, AL.
Great site. I noticed many deacons in formation have left some comments. For their sake I pray that you continue. I wish I had had the benefit of your store of information when I was in formation 10 years ago. I'm from the Diocese of Pembroke in Ontario Canada deacon frank
Found the site only by chance. I'll need some time to look around. Glad to have discovered you.
Thank you for the well-researched and timely articles I've been able to access from this site. I'm a Ukrainian Catholic( Byzantine Rite ) deacon at St. Demetrius Catholic Church in Toronto, Ontario Canada. I'm also principal of St. Demetrius School with the Catholic School Board here in Toronto (TCDSB) George Sytnyk
You have a wonderful web site!
I love this site. I am a 33 year old man interested in becoming a deacon in the diocese of Greensburg. Greensburg is close to Pittsburgh Pa. We do not currently have permanent deacons in our diocese so please keep us in your prayers. I host a web site at http://home.a1usa.net/~dhankle as an Oblate of St. Benedict and this is close as I can get to serving the people. I am also a Pastoral Associate at SS. Simon and Jude. Pray that soon we will have the ministry of the Permanent Deaconate in our diocese and that I may be able to answer God's call.
A great delight to find you! I am hoping that later this year I shall be ordained as the first Permanent Deacon in the Republic of Moldova. It has been very useful to read and download some of the documents you have collected. No doubt, I shall return for more and keep in regular touch.
I AM LOOKING INTO BECOMING A DEACON IN MY PARISH. THIS SITE IS VERY HELPFUL WITH INFORMATION. MAY GOD RICHLY BLESS YOUR MINISTRY
I have been a Christian since the age of twelve and raised in the Protestant faith. I am in the process of converting to Catholicism and seek to enter the Diaconate in the near future. I am currently active duty Navy and will be at least for the next couple years. How might I obtain information or prepare academically for the Diaconate? I will perhaps settle in the Chicago IL or Richmond Virginia area.
Sincerely, Gordon D Mathis
I think you have got a great thing going, This web site is a valuable tool for research, also I really felt great when I found this site. I would not want to be anything else nor doing anything different. deacon Ron Swiatek/chgo archdiocese class of '96
I just want to share with those men who are contemplating the decision to enter the Diaconate, this is my 20th year as a permanent deacon and I have never regretted my own decision. I praise the Lord for calling me to serve Him. Deacon Bob Amerault of the Archdiocese of Boston Massachusetts.

I'm looking for information on Junior Deacons. Anything would help. I'm Chairman of Deacons at a Baptist Church and we don't have any experience at all in any of the Who, What, Where, When, or How of such a thing. A website with information, or any literature that I could get my eyes on would be most appreciated. Thanks...... Steve Barnes

The Deacons net is a really useful forum for Deacons, I have been a deacon in the Parish of St Joseph Penketh. This is a parish in the Archdiocese of Liverpool, we have a large number of deacons within the Archdiocese, and I believe that a forum or web site like this is so valuable in our ministry. keep up the good work. This site has proved very valuable for me and I will pass on details to my colleagues in this Diocese and further. In the UK we have a variety of approaches to the Diaconate and each Deacon has to find his own Ministry as local conditions demand. One important facet is the need to be flexible. Times change -a new Parish priest brings his own ideas and sometimes he is a one-man band denying ministry not only to Deacons but everyone else. There are still opportunities to serve in some way. We have committed ourselves to serve but the choice of service is not always ours and there comes the pain. Rather like the experience of Walter Cisek in Russia ("He Leadeth Me") Comment swould be interesting.

This is an enormously helpful site. I am in the very early stages of considering the diaconate, and as you might imagine, the key at present is getting information on "the basics" before even taking the issue up with our parish priest (which I will be doing as soon as we get past Holy Week and his life is back to normal, to the extent that it ever is normal).
Thanks for a wonderful resource. It is both informative and a source of comfort, knowing that there are so many people in this community ready and willing to support the explorations of those of us considering the diaconate.

Thank You for your site. I am a Roman Catholic in the Memphis Diocese. They will be beginning a new program for future Deacons in the fall. This program takes 3 years to complete. By chance is there another program is shorter, or you may take over the internet. I don't mine the amount of time it takes, but I am a Memphis Police Officer. I work nights from 11:30 pm to 7:30 am, and my days off change monthly. So it is very hard to all night and go to class of Saturday morning and attend class all day then to go to work. The program for Memphis Diocese is all day class the first Saturday of every month. Plus I am a member of Tennessee Air National Guard in Memphis which is on the first Saturday of every month. I want to become a Deacon so much, but you see problem!
Thank You for your time, My GOD bless you.

I am from Scotland and at present know little about the Permanent Deacon. Please pray for me as I make this further journey into my faith. I would be happy to hear from any of you and I very much enjoyed reading this guest book

Hi I am Deacon Heb Gimbel from the Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey.
In our archdiocese only the TRANSIONAL Deacons are addressed as Rev. Mr. and Permanent Deacons as DEACON. This is fine with me. However I was wondering what the National "Norm" is for addressing Permeant Deacons.
By the way your web site is very good and informative.
May the Lord be with you always,

Interesting to see how others feel about the Permanent Diaconate. My bishop has just introduced the concept into the Diocese of Hexham & Newcastle UK. He needs every support and all our prayers to see his vison through to a successful and exiting ministry. I have just been accepted as an aspirant and want to support my bishop and priests as much as humanly possible. This means sensible dialogue and right formation. Deacon's Net may help.

Hi: Just found your site and I am very impressed with it.I am "Canadian." I have just been appointed by my bishop as parish administrator and deacon in a small parish without a permanent parish priest. Hello; I am very please to have found your Web-site. I have recently been accepted for admission to the Diaconate Formation Program at St. Augustine's Seminary in Toronto, starting in Sept. 2000. As part of our preparations for Sept. I have read the books they provided, but felt the need to learn a bit more before starting the program. Having been involved in the Information Systems field for almost all of my 33 years of work life, I naturally turned to the Internet. I haven't reviewed your entire site yet, but felt the need to commend you for creating this site, and using it to keep Deacons up-to-date with happenings in the ministry. I have book-marked this site, and will certainly be back soon. Regards, Brian Mason, St. Elizabeth Seton Parish, Newmarket, Ont. Canada

As a website it is excellent. The design, the navigation, colours, type of letter, etc Sincerely , congratulations ! As the purpose and the topics nothing to say. It is fantastic. You could think that I am exaggerating...so you understand me I tell you something. First I believe strongly in the permanent deaconate as a new way for the renewal of our Church and the spread of the Gospel. Second...I live in Mexico City and to have information, to search, to share ideas, experiences and subjects about the deaconate is almost impossible. That's why I appreciate so much want you are doing. Congratulations, God bless you and the work you are doing Jorge Hurrado

A friend sent me your site. Very informative. Two comments: Saint Stephen, First Martyr and Archdeacon No mention of the most famous Deacon' Saint Francis. I see you use titles "Rev. Mr." - "Mr. Deacon". In our Byzantine (Italo-Greek-Albanian Rite) a deacon is addressed as Father Deacon, Rev. Deacon or just Deacon. See our site: http://www.Byzantines.net/OurLadyofGrace/

I find the comments from Deacons very interesting. I have been a Permanent Deacon for 23 years and have loved every moment of my experiences with people of the community. I am presently retired from my position of Fiscal Officer and now have the title of Assistant at the Episcopal Chair. Probably the only one in the world. (Travel and assist my Bishop in all functions.) Your web site is quite interesting. Disappointed that homily section not yet functioning. Could have used it today. I also work in a parish of approximately 800 families staffed by our Vicar General. We have a wonderful teamwork going on in the community. Would enjoy hearing from interesting developments in the Permanent Diaconate in everyone's area.

I really am enjoying your site. I am a former Assemblies of God youth pastor who is journey to the ancient faith. It began a number of years ago, I have been pursuing the Charismatic Episcopal Church, but after much reading am moving towards Rome. The idea of not being able to minister, preach, etc really has brought much grief, but with the discovery of the Office of Deacon I am greatly encouraged. I continue to read everything I can from your site. It is truly a blessing for me. Thank you. I hope that if I indeed Convert I will have the privilege of serving as Deacon.

I enjoyed reading the comments from Frank and Joe. There is a real need for deacons to understand their own role and accept it with true humility. If we push for extended faculties it is in contradiction to the ideal of humility, which is the hallmark of a deacon. It is ever more obvious that the heart of the diaconate is the wife. Whether it be his in homily or the way he ministers to people, the attitude of the deacon is a reflection of how well his wife assisted him during his formation. Deacon George Newman. Toronto
